The tube has a fixing cuff sleeve (5), which blocks the trachea below the glottis (3). A respiration tube (1) is passed through the sleeve. A sealing balloon (7) made of flexible sheet material is arranged above the sleeve and is inflated by a supply of fluid. In the filled state, the shape of the balloon is different from that of the sleeve. When filled, the balloon bears directly against the sleeve. In this state it fills out the subglottal chamber (4). It can also be designed to fill out the supraglottal chamber (4'), and preshaped to fit the internal morphology of the larynx and glottis. The balloon shape may taper from the sleeve and then widen again. The balloon may be mounted on a tubular positioning component, while its walls enclose the sleeve (5). The walls may be glued to the sleeve.
