The apparatus such as an automatic dyeing apparatus for a microscopic sample such as biological tissues, is equipped in its cabinet (7) with a lower plate (8) and an upper plate (9) in a shelf shape. A rinsing container (10) and a chemical container (11) is placed on the upper face of the upper plate (9). A suspension arm (24) suspending a dyeing cage (13) for receiving a slide glass having a sample adhered to it, is moved to the right and left in a lower space (26) over the lower plate (9). The cage is allowed to move between the two spaces (26 and 28) through a passage (29) formed in the upper plate (9).
