<p>A portable communication device (200) selectively enables and disables a data transceiver (206), controller (212), and clock (208) in response to the presence or absence of data on a data port (204). A data transceiver (206) detects a break condition on the data port. A controller (212) disables the data transceiver (206) in response to the break condition detection, and arms an interrupt generator (222) which monitors the data port (204) while the data transceiver (206) is disabled. The interrupt generator (222) detects a transition from the break condition to an idle condition, and generates an interrupt signal in response thereto. The controller (212) enables the data transceiver (206) and clock (208) in response to the interrupt signal.</p> |
