A device and a method for detecting a linear mark which can detect spots on a linear mark image only as linear mark feature spots without influence by surrounding structures and noises so as to improve reliability in linear mark detection. The device comprising, as shown in the figure, a means for calculating the difference in brightness between inner and outer portions of a white line image (102), a means for calculating the end edge intensity of the white line (103), a means for calculating the brightness uniformity inside the white line (104) and a means for integrating features of the white line (105), thereby calculating a white line worthiness by integrating a plurality of features including a brightness difference between white line image inner and outer portions, an edge intensity and a brightness uniformity inside the white line. |
