PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy dissipator having a structure in which a scale is reduced and the quantity of air entrained into an energy dissipating tank is decreased and having a structure in which the retention of sewage or the like is difficult to occur. SOLUTION: A weir 2 is installed into the energy dissipating tank 1 with an inflow port 1a and an outflow port 1b at a prescribed interval to the outflow port 1b while a through-hole 2b (or a slit) is formed to the weir 2, and the upstream side and downstream side of the weir 2 are communicated. The upper end of the weir 2 is positioned at a place higher than the pipe bottom of an inflow pipe 3 connected to the inflow port 1a of the tank 1 by the quarter or more of the pipe diameter of the inflow pipe 3. A horizontal flow path horizontally extending towards the inflow port 1a is formed on the upstream side of the inflow port 1a of the tank 1.
