PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing apparatus for an information recording medium which can copy the contents of a DVD video whose copy is not prohibited or a video recorded by a user at least one time although it cannot copy the contents of a DVD video whose copy is prohibited. SOLUTION: In the recording and reproducing apparatus which records and reproduces a block of error correction as a unit of recording and reproduction with respect to an information recording medium which makes an error correction block a unit of recording and reproduction and which is equipped with a prepit area in which an area which is inserted between recording areas and has a second depth in which a prepit is formed by making the block of error correction as a unit has a boundary portion different from the unit of the block of error correction between recording areas having a first depth in which the block of error correction is constructed as a unit of recording and reproduction, recording and reproduction is performed by creating a block of error correction for information in a recording area from the boundary portion of the end of the prepit area as correction block information in a unit different from a unit of recording and reproduction according to the address of a recording area. |
