PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording and reproducing apparatus in which the deterioration of error-correcting capability can be avoided in the case of performing recording and reproduction by using a recordable information recording medium, and the waste of a recorded area can be suppressed. SOLUTION: In a recordable DVD disk, the boundary part between a preceeding ECC(error correcting code) block (n-1) and a succeeding ECC block (n) is provided with a data structure in which a linking area is placed. The linking area consists of 2 sync frames, and a sync cord SYX distinguishable from a normal sync cord in each ECC block is added to each sync frame at the head at recording. An embossed area is provided within a suitable range in the center of the linking area, and embossed pit rows with a rugged shape are formed in advance. In such a structure, recording is performed across linking areas placed separately from each ECC block. Thereby, the deterioration of error-correcting capability is avoided, while reducing the waste of the recorded area, and recording to the linking areas is made difficult by the presence of the embossed pit rows, accordingly the illegal copy can effectively be prevented. |
