The loading device for loading piece goods in and out, such as barrels, cases or crates, of a loading space, can operate within a loading space and comprises a manipulator and a transport unit (8). The manipulator is provided with components for gripping the piece goods and with further components for moving them at least around a vertical axis. The manipulator is principally fitted near the end of the transport device. The manipulator is movable in the space between itself and the transport unit. The manipulator and the transport unit are separately movable. The manipulator is an industrial bent arm robot. The manipulator and the transport unit support on a common platform, which can turn support on the floor (2) of a loading space.
