PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on-line roll grinding method allowing stable grinding without causing the damage of a grinding wheel or a non-contact state with a roll during grinding even in the case of reverse rolling used for a rolled material such as a thick steel plate rolled in a short time in a rolling machine having an axis runout preventing device. SOLUTION: In this on-line grinding method for grinding the work roll with the elastic grinding wheel during the operation of the rolling machine having the work roll axis runout preventing device, the axis runout preventing device is not changed from an operating state into a non-operating state or from the non-operating state into the operating state during work roll grinding .
