A database operation method in a mobile terminal and an apparatus for the same are provided to synthetically manage the contents files stored through an MTP(Media Transfer Protocol) and the contents files stored through other protocols using a single database by automatically adding the record of a contents file to the database even though the contents file is downloaded and stored through the protocol without the MTP. A database operation apparatus in a mobile terminal comprises a storage part(170), a data extraction part(194), and a database update part(196). The storage part(170) contains an MTP database(172), and stores a contents file downloaded from an external network. In case the external network is a network connected through not an MTP but another protocol, the data extraction part(194) extracts information about the stored contents file. The database update part(196) adds the extracted contents file information to the MTP database(172).
