The medullary nail has a shell (13,17) formed as a hollow bod. The walls of the shell are of different thicknesses to provide a variable flexibility to compensate the stresses transmitted between the prosthesis and bone. The degree of compensation is proportionally to the natural physical characteristics of the bone walls in contact with the shell. The prosthesis can have an assembly with a head section (11) following a hollow body (13) and a massive rod (12). The walls of the shell having different thicknesses. The shell can be specially shaped to be enclosed by the bone.
