Provided is a communication system which can execute communication while performing switching between a full duplex communication and a half duplex communication.  When a slave (200) has received a command packet signal for requesting a data write-in or data read-out from a master (100), the slave (200) transmits a response packet signal containing information for specifying communication by a half duplex communication in response to the command packet signal, to the master (100) if the number of command packet signals stored in a command signal queue (252) reaches the upper limit of the command packet signals which can be stored in the command signal queue (252).
