Disclosed is a linear or rod-shaped steel with excellent cold-formed machinability and a manufacturing method for the same. According to an aspect of the present invention, the linear or rod-shaped steel contains: 0.05-0.4 wt% of C; 0.005-0.5 wt% of Si; 0.1-2.0 wt% of Mn; 0.01-1.5 wt% of Cr; 0.002-0.02 wt% of B; 0.03 wt% or less of P; 0.016-0.05 wt% of S; 0.01-0.07 wt% of sol. Al; 0.004-0.02 wt% of N; and residuals containing Fe and inevitable impurities. The content of Mn and S satisfies a following interaction formula 1. The content of N and B satisfies a following interaction formula 2. The interaction formula 1 is 4<=[Mn]/[S]<=50. The interaction formula 2 is ]-0.0010<=[N]-[B]<=0.0020. (each of the [Mn], [S], [N], and [B] means the content (wt%) of a corresponding element). |
