PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide artificial sand capable of suppressing reduction of template strength, even when being used repeatedly for molding.SOLUTION: There is provided artificial sand used as a raw material for binder-containing sand for a template. The artificial sand is mainly composed of synthetic mullite containing 40-90 wt% alumina and 60-10 wt% silica and/or synthetic corundum, has a particle size distribution of 30-1,180 μm, has a surface area (cm/cm) per unit volume in the range of 60,000/d-1,800,000/d (d is an average particle diameter (μm) of spherical objects), and shows a calcium ion elution concentration of 60 mg/L or less to 0.05 M-HCl aqueous solution.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
