A dialysing membrane envelope for use in the parallel flow dialyser shown comprises membranes 9, 9 which constitute the two sides of the membrane envelope and are stretched within and adhesively sealed to a peripheral frame 11, 11, and inlet and outlet ports 4, 4 for liquid flowing through the envelope. The major part of the membranes may be covered with plastics netting 10, preferably low density polyethylene netting in which the two sets of strands lie in superimposed planes to produce a mixing action in the liquid flowing through the envelope, netting 9 being stretched within and sealed to frames 11. Frames 11 may be of foamed polyurethane, polyethylene or polystyrene; the adhesive seals may be made using double sided adhesive tape. The dialyser shown comprises elongated rigid and substantially flat boards 1, which may be of polypropylene, clamped face to face with the membrane envelope between them, and with ports 5, 7 and manifolds 3 for distribution of dialysing liquid. |
