The igniter member used in gas turbine engines is etched preferably electrolytically, and thereafter plated with Pt to improve its catalytic properties. For example, a mesh of Pt or Pt/Rh alloy is electrolytically etched with aqua regia, plated with Pt, and the plated surface heated at 600 DEG C. to harden the coating. A re-heat chamber of a jet engine is illustrated (not shown) including a mounted catalytic member. |
