The washing chamber of a dishwashing machine is divided by a baffle 13 into two washing zones 11, 12 for articles such as saucepans and cutlery and for fragile articles such as plates, respectively each zone being provided with at least one sprayer 17 or 18, the sprayers being supplied with washing liquid by a single pump 16, and a device such as a valve 21 is provided controlled by means adapted to be actuated at a predetermined time in a wash cycle, or when the temperature of the washing liquid reaches a predetermined value, to prevent spraying of the fragile articles in the zone 12. In other embodiments the dividing baffle is horizontal and may be carried by one of the sprayers. Also the valve when closed 15 cut-off the washing liquid supply to the sprayer for the fragile articles may open a by-pass to the inlet side of the pump to reduce the pressure of the liquid sprayed on the saucepans, &c. In further embodiments the valve is omitted and a louvre device is provided in front of the sprayer for the fragile articles, which louvre is actuated by means responsive to the temperature of the washing liquid or by a programme timer 15 prevent sprayed liquid from reaching the fragile articles when the washing liquid reaches a predetermined temperature.</p> |
