1,206,274. Liquid cooling dynamo-electric machine rotors. C. A. PARSONS & CO. Ltd. 1 Nov., 1967 [9 Nov., 1966], No. 50184/66. Heading H2A. In a dynamo-electric machine rotor 1 in which a liquid coolant flows in a circuit from an inlet to the rotor, through the rotor winding 10, and then to an outlet 11 from the rotor, the temperature and hence the likelihood of boiling of the coolant at the outlet is reduced by introducing into the circuit at a position between the winding and the outlet a supplementary cooling liquid. Both liquids may be water, and in the embodiment shown the coolant enters and leaves via ducts 4 and 5, and the supplementary liquid enters via ducts 6 and 7 to mix with the coolant in a header 2; in another embodiment the two liquids mix in the duct 5. The machine may be a turbo-alternator, and the supplementary liquid supply may be controlled by a valve 8 operable by a temperature sensitive device 9 which may also control via a valve 12 the liquid coolant supply which may be pressurized. |
