PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new fluoran compound useful as a color former for a color developing recording material such as a pressure-sensitive or a thermo- sensitive recording material excellent in whiteness and shelf stability of a base surface, capable of developing a clear red color and having a good preservation stability of an image. SOLUTION: This new fluoran compound is represented by formula I [R1 and R2 are each an alkyl or can form a heterocyclic ring by bonding each other with a nitrogen atom bonded thereto; (n) is an integer of 0 to 2] useful as a color former, etc., for a color developing recording material such as a pressure-sensitive or a thermo-sensitive recording material excellent in whiteness and shelf stability of a base surface, capable of developing a clear red color and having a good preservation stability of an image. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a benzophenone compound of formula II with a diphenylamine compound of formula III (R is H or a lower alkyl) in the presence of a condensation agent through a dehydration and further treating the resultant product with an organic amine or an alkali. |
