The framework members 56-64 are interconnected, and atmospheric air, or gas from a separate source, is drawn into the confinement through openings 90 controlled by flaps 92 during expansion. In other embodiments the framework may be provided by a plurality of separate tubular members (Fig. 3, not shown), gas may be introduced into the confinement via openings in the frame members (Fig. 6, not shown), and the frame members may be prestressed to give specific arrangements on inflation (Figs. 4, 5, not shown).
