<p>A pneumatic tyre has spikes mounted to slide freely in passages through the tread. The tyres chamber wall (inner tube with protective band or a fixed sealing band) is separated from the outer wall by a highly resilient compression layer e.g. of foam with extra cavities. The spike heads are sealed at the inner chamber wall, so that the internal pressure urges them outwards through the outer wall. Spikes are pref. coated with PTFE.</p> |
