The reactor is constructed from thermally insulating material, and has an inlet opening and an outlet opening on either side of a reactor space. The latter is filled with coiled wire or cellular ceramic material to increase the effective surface area. A motor driven expulsion unit, in conjunction with a valve and an outlet port, is provided to assist the removal of the waste gases. A catalyst is employed to expedite the reaction process. The containing vessel for the reaction space is generally of oval form, and may have a recirculation loop with a small reservoir to improve the efficiency of the treatment process.
