In the parent patent, wood chips carried by an air stream are deposited in a uniform layer on a conveyor passing through a distribution chamber by controlling the deposition with the aid of two oppositely directed air streams whose flow rate is varied. In the course of deposition the drying, wetting and cooling steps are carried out separately or in dependence on one another. In this addn., wood chips-carrying air stream or the control air streams are conditioned prior to entry into the distribution chamber so that they are suitable for the carrying out of the predetermined course of the process and the wood chips are subjected to violent turbulence by the control air streams on arrival in the distribution chamber. Carrier air stream and the control streams are forced through the layer during removal from the chamber for further treatment of the deposited wood chips layer. Field of application of process is increased.
