The clamp of machine tool slide ensures a reliable locking without causing a symmetrical loading, and thus results in square positioning of the slide with respect to the feed direction. Actuation of the clamping spindle (5) shifts the two bars (6/7) towards the clamping surfaces (8/9) of the machine slide (1). The movement provides a symmetrical thrust, and the whole mechanism acts as a closed system which compensates nonparallelism of clamping surfaces (8/9) and of the slideways (2/3). The clamping forces are taken up by tube (12) and thus eliminates force transfer to the machine bed (4).
