Compounds of the annexed formula I <IMAGE> are prepared in which every R1 and R2 independently of one another represents hydrogen or methyl, R3 and R4 represent halogen, -CF3, C2-C4-alkyl, C1-C3-alkoxy or C3-C4-alkenyl and n and m represent 0, 1 or 2, but where the sum of n and m is not 0 if both R1 denote CH3 and both R2 denote H, and their acid addition salts with pharmaceutically acceptable acids. To do this, the appropriate optionally substituted 3-chloro-1-phenoxy-1-phenylpropane is reacted with ammonia or an amine of the formula NHR1R1 and the compound obtained is optionally converted into its acid addition salt. The compounds of the formula I can be used as psychotropic agents, in particular as antidepressants.
