A garage door with a lifting linkage, which has lateral lever arms (3), to the force arm (5) of which are connected tension springs which are fastened to the frame of the door and which are relaxed during the opening of the door and can keep the door wing in the approximately horizontal opening position, incurs the risk that, if the tension springs break, the door can slam shut and spring parts fly away laterally and thereby cause personal and material damage. To prevent this, there is provided on the side of each tension spring facing away from the door wing, and approximately parallel to the said tension spring, a protective cover (10) articulated in the region of the fastening point of the latter. The protective cover is drawn towards the door frame by means of a clamping spring, is supported on the tension spring (10) at a distance from the latter via a sliding part and has, at the free end, a locking component (17) which comes into engagement with a locking counter-component (18) on the force arm (5) of the lever arm (3) when the support of the protective cover (10) on the tension spring is cancelled. If a tension spring breaks, the catch device is drawn abruptly in the direction of the frame by the upper clamping spring, since the broken tension spring cannot oppose any resistance to the sliding part of the catching arm. <IMAGE>
