A printing device for a time recorder, such as a time clock, in which the printing position of a printer relative to a time card pushed into a card compartment of the time clock can be selectively varied as a result of the transverse displacement of the card compartment along a sliding rod extending horizontally in the time clock, possesses a wire-type character printer on a bottom part, which is transversely displaceable, parallel to the printing side of the pushed-in time card, on guide rods extending horizontally in the time clock and parallel to one another, the printing head of the character printer pointing towards the printing side of the time card, the bottom part of the character printer carrying two downward-pointing roller shafts arranged at a distance from one another, each with a guide roller, and a cam disc being arranged rotatably between these guide rollers, in such a way that, for the printing operation, the bottom part can be displaced in a transverse direction by the amount of the width of a printing column by its guide rollers loaded by the cam disc which is rotatable through 360 DEG when the time card is pushed in.
