The process for preparing acicular (needle-shaped) goethite involves admixing an iron salt solution with alkali and subjecting the solution to an oxidation reaction. In order to obtain an acicular goethite of improved shape and structure, the solution, after the addition of the alkali and before carrying out the oxidation reaction, is aged for several hours. Preferably, an oxidant is added as a preliminary measure, before the solution is aged. <IMAGE>
