The object is to provide a device for packing together rolled bars of small cross-section on rake-type (notch-type) cooling beds with double notching to give layers of bars with a fixed, uniform spacing from bar to bar which corresponds to the profiling of the blades of the cold shear. The device is to guarantee full utilisation of the cutting force of the cold shears with their profiled blades and to considerably increase the throughput of the finishing shop. This is achieved by virtue of the fact that levers which can be pivoted down about a pivot by a reciprocating drive - in the opposite direction to the path of motion of the last tooth root of the moving cooling bedrack out of an upper working position above a cross-conveyer, in a point of intersection with the abovementioned path of motion, into a lower working position which lies in the conveying plane of the cross-conveyer and are provided with pick-up heads are arranged in the transfer region of the cooling bed.
