The invention relates to a hydrorefining catalyst for hydrocarbon fractions of primary or secondary origin. The aim of the invention is a hydrorefining catalyst which is distinguished by a particularly high specific catalyst activity. The object of developing a catalyst which consists of components less expensive to produce is achieved by a catalyst which consists of elements of subgroups 6 and 8 of the periodic table and of an alumina support, and in which the elements of subgroups 6 and 8 of the periodic table are present in the catalyst in the form of uncalcined compounds such as hydroxides, hydrated oxides or salts. The catalyst is used for the hydrorefining of hydrocarbon fractions of primary or secondary origin.
