PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an active oxygen scavenger comprising an essence of Citrus reticulata, having excellent active oxygen scavenging action as well as high safety and heat resistance and useful for cosmetics and foods for aging prevention, e.g. improvement of crease. SOLUTION: This active oxygen scavenger contains an essence of Citrus reticulata (a material obtained by adding a solvent such as alcohols in an amount of 2 to 10 times to a dried material of pericarp of Citrus reticulata or its pulverized material, immersing the dried material or its pulverized material in the solvent for several days at ambient temperature or for several times at a temperature near boiling point, removing an insoluble matter by filtration, etc., and further, condensing the liquid under reduced pressure and, as necessary, purifying the concentrate with column chromatography, etc.) as an active ingredient.
