PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sharply and quickly print out a black character/black line drawing included in a color image. SOLUTION: A character thickness discrimination section 112 decides a thickness and its area of a character and a line drawing in an input image, an edge detection section 110 detects the contour of the character and the line drawing, a saturation discrimination section 111 discriminates the saturation of the line drawing. An LUT 1131 decides a parameter for image processing based on the discrimination result, and a masking UCR section 107 and a filter processing section 108 apply image processing to the input image so that a black character/ black line drawing is sharpened according to the parameter. Thus, not only the black character/black line drawing is made sharp but also the high speed is realized through the output from a 4 drum system LBP. |
