The invention relates to electrical switchgear that includes a plurality of units (202, 203, 204). Each unit includes a non-current-carrying stand-part that has an essentially earth voltage level, an apparatus-part carried by the stand-part, and a connecting-part connected to the apparatus-part. According to the invention, at least some of the apparatus-parts include a plurality of electrical components. Some of these components include breakers and disconnectors. The units (202, 203, 204) are placed and orientated relative to one another so as to be spaced at the smallest possible distance from one another, while observing requisite electrical safety distances. The switchgear also includes busbars disposed inwardly of the outermost of said units. Because many of the stands support electrical components of several different types, and as result of the positioning and orientation of these electrical components, the area of land taken-up by the switchgear will be considerably less than the area of land taken-up by switchgear constructed in accordance with conventional techniques. |
