The drive wheels (30,31;32,33) touch opposite sides of a rotatable drive tube (12) which provides linear movement to the carriage (10). The angle of the drive wheels is controlled by a remote-controlled air motor (62) fitted directly on the carriage A number of cams produce a controlled acceleration and braking effect on the carriage approaching the ends of its movement path. A selectively operable very slow approach regulation is remotely controlled to produce a reduced movement speed for the linear drive unit. The linear drive unit can easily be connected to the load to be moved, such as a mobile lifting mechanism, and the forces produced on conversion of the drive tube rotation to the linear movement of the carriage and load are absorbed inside the carriage. |
