PURPOSE: To obtain an aqueous antimicrobial composition useful for removing harmful microbial pollution on various kinds of surfaces, by combinedly using ethyl alcohol with benzyl alcohol at a specific ratio and synergistically increasing antimicrobial activity. CONSTITUTION: This aqueous antimicrobial composition is obtained by compounding (A) ethyl alcohol with (B) benzyl alcohol as essential components and preferably further (C) an antimicrobial agent selected from a phenolic compound and a quaternary ammonium compound, especially (C') o-phenylphenol at a ratio of about 10-30wt.% component A, about 2-5wt.% component B and about <=0.2wt.% component C, preferably about 19-21wt.% (especially 19wt.%) component A, about 3-5wt.% (especially 3wt.%) component B and about 0.07-0.2wt.% (especially 0.12wt.%) component C'. The composition exhibits inflammability lower than that of conventional composition, synergistic antimicrobial activity and antibacterial, antiviral and antituberculous activities in wide range spectrum. |
