Sighting instrument for measuring large heights. The invention makes it possible to measure inaccessible heights by simple and quick sighting. The user stands at a certain distance (measured in paces) from the height to be measured, and offers this instrument vertically a well-defined distance from his face. The height reading is read directly in metres from the graduated scale. This instrument also makes it possible to measure horizontal lengths which cannot be physically negotiated. This instrument is mainly intended for architects, town planners, country planners or tourists. <IMAGE>
