PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the utilizing rate of a nickel electrode and provide an alkaline secondary battery having a high capacity from the initial stage of charge and discharge cycle and a long life by adding cobalt monoxide and cobalt hydroxide in combination to nickel hydroxide, as an additive to the nickel hydroxide of main component, to form a kneaded paste type nickel electrode. SOLUTION: In order to improve the active material utilizing ratio of a paste type nickel electrode as alkaline secondary battery positive electrode, the following method of manufacture is adapted. This paste type nickel electrode is formed by using nickel hydroxide as main component, adding an additive thereto, kneading the mixture with a viscous aqueous solution to prepare a positive electrode active material paste, and filling the paste into a porous current collector followed by drying and rolling. As the additive, cobalt monoxide and cobalt hydroxide are used together, and they are added to the nickel hydroxide so that cobalt hydroxide occupies the range of 5-60% by mole ratio to the total quantity of both the additives to form a kneaded paste type nickel electrode. |
