PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability of a transmitter and receiver for users by selecting one out of a plurality of transmitting signal sources so that the signals from the signal source can be transmitted. SOLUTION: A switching circuit 2 which selects one AV input terminal out of AV input terminals T1 to Tn and video/audio signals outputted from the circuit 2 are transmitted through infrared rays so that signals from a plurality of transmitting signal sources can be transmitted selectively. In addition, a switching information signal S2 is generated from the select signal S1 of the circuit 2 and transmitted by superimposing the signal S2 on video signals.
