PURPOSE:To provide a picture copying machine not requiring preliminary scanning when the background color of an original picture is eliminated or the like. CONSTITUTION:When copying is started, a reader section reads a white level reference board and stores correction data to a shading correction section 153. Succeedingly reading of an original is started and a read by a CCD 151 is converted into a digital signal and the signal is subjected to shading correction and input masking processing, the result is inputted to a magnification processing section 155 and a background color detection section 170. When the presence of a background color is discriminated, a correction curve in response to a maximum original reflectance luminance Dmax is set to a gamma correction section 161. Moreover, when the absence of the background color is discriminated, a default gamma correction curve is set to the gamma correction section 161. Succeedingly, picture data are read from a memory section 158, correction processing is implemented by the gamma correction section 161 to send picture data from which a background color is eliminated to a printer section. |
