PURPOSE:To produce a sintered rare earth base permanent magnet excellent in magnetic characteristics by reusing a scrapped magnet as starting material. CONSTITUTION:A scrapped R2T14B sintered magnet alloy (R is one or more kinds of rare earth elements, chiefly Nd, Pr and Dy and T is one or more kinds of transition metals, chiefly Fe or Fe+Co) is prepd. and 99-70wt.% powder of the magnet alloy as an alloy A is mixed with 1-30wt.% powder of an allay B obtd. by adding M (M is one or more kinds of elements among Al, Cu, Zn, In, Ga, Si, P, S, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Ge, Zr, Nb, Mo, Pd, Ag, Cd, Sn, Sb, Hf, Ta and W) to the alloy A. The resulting powdery alloy mixture contg. an R2T14L phase (L is B or B+M) and/or an R-rich phase and one or more phases among RT4L, RT3, RT2, R2T7 and RT5 is press-compacted in a magnetic field, sintered in vacuum or in an inert gaseous atmosphere and subjected to aging heat treatment at a temp. below the sintering temp. |
