PURPOSE:To provide the optical waveguide which does not require machining and enables optical interconnection even in microregions by exposing all the ends of a waveguide part to the front surface of a substrate on the side to be embedded with the waveguide and executing incidence and exit of light in the exposed parts. CONSTITUTION:The optical waveguide 20 which is formed by embedding a part having the higher refractive index than the refractive index of a substrate 10 having light transmissivity to light of a desired wavelength, exposed with all the ends of the waveguide 20 part on the substrate 10 surface on the side to be embedded with the waveguide 20 and executes the incident and exit of light in the exposed parts 22 is produced. A laser diode and a photodiode are respectively arranged to face the exposed parts 22 at both ends of the flush type optical waveguide 20 produced in such a manner. The light emitted from this laser diode is made incident on the inside of the substrate 10 from the exposed part 22 on the substrate 10 surface when this part 22 is irradiated with this light. In succession, the light propagates in the optical waveguide 20, is emitted from the exposed part 22 at another one end and is received in the photodiode. |
