The wall of the burner's catalytic part is a high temperature latent heat accumulator (2). It is composed of a double walled tubular casing (3) filled with a latent heat storage material (4). This material is preferably circulated by force or gravity. The accumulator carries a catalyst layer (7), and sits in water (1). The fuel-air mixture flows through an outer cylinder (5) and thence into an annular reaction space (6), where it is burnt by the catalyst using an open-flame burner (8). There may be a second catalyst coated burner (9) to burn the remaining gas.
