PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type image display device with which a bright picture can be provided. SOLUTION: This projection type image display device is provided with two light sources 1 and 10 and two liquid crystal panels 11b and 12b, and light emitted from the 1st light source 1 is made incident to a 1st polarizing beam splitter 4 so as to be split into S polarized light and P polarized light. Then, the S polarized light is guided to one liquid crystal panel 11b, the P polarized light is guided to another liquid crystal panel 12b, light emitted from the 2nd light source 10 is made incident to a 2nd polarizing beam splitter 13 so as to be split into S polarized light and P polarized light, the S polarized light is guided to one liquid crystal panel 11b, the P polarized light is guided to the other liquid crystal panel 12b, and video beams provided through the respective liquid crystal panels 11b and 12b are respectively overlapped through projection lenses 14 and 15 onto a screen 20 so that an image can be displayed. |
