The arm rest support (20) has sections (22,30) held via fastenings (28) to the vehicle door and multiple laterally extending ribs (32) which extends upwardly and inwardly to outer upper ends (36) to extend laterally in superposed fashion from the mountings. A door trim plate (18) has an integral armrest (19) and decorative outer surface (64). It has a rear side stiffening layer (60). The integral armrest fits over the armrest support and the outer upper ends of the ribs for increased vertical support strength.
