The invention concerns a device for printing labels in a hand-held labelling appliance with a printing mechanism. The strip of labels passes over a guide edge at the dispensing point, at which point the label becomes detached from its carrier band and the carrier band is subsequently fed into a transport device for advancing the label strip. The invention consists in the fact that the label strip (12) used has individual labels (16), made of cardboard or a similar material, which are stuck to the carrier band (15) by means of an adhesive which, following separation of the label from the carrier band, remains on the band, or the adhesive residue remaining on the label after separation of the label from its support band (16) is not considered sufficient to cause any interference, or the adhesive loses its adhesiveness after separation from the carrier band. The labels can also be held on the carrier band by embossing.
