PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dichroic colorant compsn. which has good contrast characteristics and gives a guest-host type liq. crystal compsn. excellent in stability such as weatherability by combining a yellow-red dichroic azo colorant with a blue dichroic azo colorant. SOLUTION: At least one yellow-red colorant selected from among colorants represented by formulas I and II is combined with at least one blue colorant selected from among colorants represented by formulas III and IV. In the formulas, R1, R2, R5, R6, R7, R8, and R9 are each H, an optionally halogenated 1-12C alkyl, optionally halogenated 1-12C alkoxy, optionally halogenated 2-12C alkoxyalkyl, or halogen; and R3 and R4 are each H, methyl, methoxy, a halogen, or fluoromethyl provided R3 and R4 may combine with each other to form an alicyclic or arom. ring. A fluorine-base liq. crystal is pref. as a host liq. crystal material to be combined with the colorant compsn.
