HYALURONIC ACID GEL AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a hyaluronic acid gel having extremely slow dissolving rate in water, excellent in transparency and useful as a biocompatible material without using a chemical cross-linking agent and a chemical modifier by using a specific acidic aqueous solution of the hyaluronic acid. SOLUTION: This method for producing a hyaluronic acid gel hardly soluble in neutral aqueous solution comprises using an acidic aqueous solution of the hyaluronic acid having >=5 wt.% hyaluronic acid concentration and containing an acid component in the mols the same as or more than the mols of the hyaluronic acid. For example, the transparent single hyaluronic acid gel having <=50 wt.% dissolution rate per day in the neutral aqueous solution is obtained by aging the acidic aqueous solution at -10 to 30 deg.C before neutralization.
