PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a further improved method for reacting an organic compound, especially selectively hydrogenating a polymer having a C-C multiple bond. SOLUTION: This method for reacting an organic compound on a macroporous carrier catalyst containing a boron oxide is a method for reacting the organic compound in the presence of a catalyst containing as an active metal loaded on a carrier having macropores, at least only one kind of a transition metal of the VIII group of the Periodic Table, or together with at least one kind of a transition metal of the I or VII group of the Periodic Table in 0.01 to 30 wt.% based on the total weight of the catalyst, and as the component of the carrier, boron(III) oxide is contained in a mass ratio of 10 to 100 wt.% based on the total weight of the carrier.
