PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a material having high uniformity of boron content in which the boron content can be easily controlled by controlling the compounding ratio of a carbon material containing no boron, the treating time and treating temp. in the process of curing and carbonizing a boron-contg. thermosetting resin. SOLUTION: A boron-contg. thermosetting resin is cured and carbonized. The boron content is controlled by compounding a carbon precursor or a carbon material containing no boron or by controlling the temp. and treating time of carbonization. The boron-contg. thermosetting resin is a thermosetting resin modified with boron, and for example, a phenol resin, epoxy resin, urethane resin, unsatd. polyester, melamine resin, urea resin, aniline resin, bismaleimide resin and benzoxazine resin can be used. As for the carbon precursor or the carbon material containing no boron, for example, pitch, coke, wood, sugar, cellulose acetate fiber, vinyl chloride resin, butadiene rubber, furan resin and epoxy resin can be used.
