New syringe consists of a plunger (2) with fixed (19) and retractable vanes (7, 7A), a conical seal holder (18) and a seal (9). The barrel contains a stop in the form of a non-return ring (27, 27A) to prevent the plunger from being withdrawn once it has been depressed to give the injection, and two half nuts (6, 6A) fitted to the vanes when the syringe is filled to control the barrel volume. The needle becomes locked to the plunger at the end of its stroke, preventing its removal for re-use.
